The Government’s Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) is a £77m grant support programme that opened to applicants in February 2023.
It provides funding to public, private and third sector applicants in England and Wales, to support improvements to existing district heating or communal heating projects for customers and operators.
Projects can apply for either revenue grant funding or capital grant funding.

Grange Walk, commonly known as The Exchange, is an iconic Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) development in Bermondsey, London, comprising 205 dwellings spread across 6 blocks.
- Notting Hill Genesis: Thomas Road
Thomas Road, situated in Poplar, London is home to a 13-year-old development comprising 182 dwellings under the umbrella of Notting Hill Genesis (NHG).
- Notting Hill Genesis: Windmill Park
In London stands Windmill Park, a Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) development comprising 212 dwellings across 10 blocks.
- Waverley, The Guinness Partnership
The Waverley project, undertaken by The Guinness Partnership (TGP), aimed to address overheating issues in Waverley Court, a 50-year-old residential building situated in Crewe.

- Glyn Street, Notting Hill
Glyn Street, a 12-year-old development by Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) in Vauxhall, London, embarked on a journey to enhance the efficiency of its heat network.
- Richmond Park Avenue, Great Places
Richmond Park Avenue, a development by Great Places Housing in Handsworth, Sheffield, has been operational since 2007.
- West Hampstead Square, Ballymore
The West Hampstead Square project, a Ballymore development completed in 2017, encompassing 197 dwellings across seven blocks, sought to optimise its existing heat network setup.
- Loughborough Park, The Guinness Partnership
The Loughborough Park project, a 9-year-old development by The Guinness Partnership (TGP) in Brixton, comprises 487 dwellings.
- Holyrood, Southampton City Council
Holyrood is a 25-year-old development run by Equans UK in Southampton. The complex serves 274 dwellings across 10 blocks.
- Southbank Tower, SSE
The Southbank Tower project, a collaboration between Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) and FairHeat, aimed to optimise the heat network serving Southbank Tower, a mixed-use development in Southwark.
