ABOUT
The Local Government Association (LGA) and Gemserv work together to identify gaps in the local retrofit and green skills markets.
THE CHALLENGE
The LGA are a cross-party organisation that comprises of 331 of the 333 councils in England. They work on behalf of local councils to provide a strong voice with the national government and deliver local solutions to national problems.
LGA required expert analysis to demonstrate the rising demand of green jobs across the nation to the meet the requirements of a net zero economy.
The goal was to help inform the growth of different jobs and skill levels required across the nation to meet future net zero targets, with specific focus on the years 2030 and 2050.
OUR FINDINGS
THE SOLUTION
By working with local governments and industry experts, Gemserv gathered information via surveys and interviews to develop employment projections and assess the emerging skills gap at both regional and national levels.
The report used the insight of industry experts in particular to assess the necessary skill and qualification requirements in each low carbon and renewable energy sector.
THE IMPACT
Immediate skill gaps were identified across the low carbon heating sector and in the developing low carbon power sector. The results of Gemserv’s research have been collated into multiple reports that allow councils to identify specific areas that will play an important role in their net zero transitions. By collecting these statistics into an easy-to-read format, Gemserv has enabled local authorities to start to identify their unique requirements.
The findings have been used by LGA to create a dynamic report featuring infographics to display these figures that Gemserv collated into area and sector requirements with target figures for both 2030 and 2050.
